Youth Planning Projects

One of the most exciting aspects of planning is its ability to shape the future and guide a community to a path of success.  In order to do that, it is essential to recognize that the decisions made today will directly impact the day-to-day lives of the coming generations.  As Sauk County works to solidify its vision for the future, we have a unique opportunity to make extra efforts to reach out to the youth who will be inheriting the plan’s legacy.  Many of those young adults are eager to make their voices heard and learn about effective, meaningful ways to do their part to assist the community in solving society’s upcoming problems.

During the 2009 Spring Semester, Sauk County Planning & Zoning staff coordinated an effort with the Baraboo and Reedsburg School Districts to engage youth in the planning process.  Students from both districts had the opportunity to learn about planning concepts, land development patterns, and community making.  In addition, students honed their problem-solving and presentational skills by thinking critically about planning issues currently facing Sauk County.
